Born Aberdeen, 1561. Educated at the Grammar School. Graduate of King's Coll (M.A. c. 1579) Travelled to Frankfurt, Germany 1579, Breslau 1582, then returned to Frankfurt before moving to Rostock. Master of Philosophy, Rostock. Moved to Helmstadt c.1590. M.D., Helmstadt 1596. Professor at Helmstadt, first of mathematics 1591-4, higher mathematics 1594-1603, then of medicine 1596-1607. Dean of Faculty of Philosophy and Pro-Rector of the University 1604. Returned to Aberdeen, 1606/7. Endowed six bursaries and a professorship of mathematics in Marischal Coll. Died Aberdeen, 1613. Bequeathed books and mathematical instruments to Marischal Coll.
