W latach 1793-94 prowadził firmę wraz z synem Christoph'em Gottlob'em Breitkopf i zięciem Christoph'em Gottlob'em Stopp pod nazwą: Breitkopf, Sohn und Kompanie. Na drukach również: mit Breitkopfischen Schriften.

Breitkopfs Bibliothek wurde 1795-1799 in Leipzig versteigert
