NoteRefined and renowned book collector, whose library he wished to open to the public so as to make the most of an important collection that many scholars knew and had access to. In 1582 Podiani made an agreement with the city government according to which his library would be the public city library. Disagreement between Podiani and the city rulers made him change his mind but the local government was eventually able to take possession of the library after his death (1615). The Biblioteca Augusta was therefore officially opened only in 1623 (G. Cecchini, La Biblioteca Augusta del Comune di Perugia, 1978; MA Panzanelli Fratoni, Bibliofilia, biblioteche private e pubblica utilita'.
