Books with this eighteenth-century pencil inscription were later owned by Count Boutourlin; numerous books with the same combination of provenance are also in the Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris.

Guigard, Nouvel armorial du bibliophile, 2 vols (Paris, 1890), II 86-7. For his armorial book-plates see Bragaglia III 1753-5 (who confuses Boutourlin with a relative [see below], and gives incorrect dates for that relative); a reworking of 1755 (not in Bragaglia), with added hatching and background, has been identified in C-270. Sales: Catalogue des livres de la bibliothèque de S. E. M. le comte de Boutourlin; revu par MM. Ant.-Alex. Barbier, bibliothécaire du Conseil d'État, et Charles Pougens, de l'Institut de France (Paris, 1805); Catalogue de la bibliothèque de son exc. M. le comte D. Boutourlin (Florence, 1831); Catalogue de la bibliothèque de feu M. le Comte D. Boutourlin, 3 parts (Paris: Silvestre, 1839, 1840, 1841); the bill for Bodleian purchases in Library Records, Bills 1840, no. 1. He has frequently been confused with Dimitrij Petroviž Buturlin (1790-1849), who was a soldier.
