S'établit à Philadelphie en nov. 1784 après un mois passé en prison à Londres à cause de la violence antigouvernementale de son périodique dublinois, "The Volunteers' Journal". À Philadelphie, lance plusieurs périodiques dont "The Pennsylvania Herald". Directeur de la Banque de Philadelphie (1802). Se retire en 1824. Décédé en sept. 1839
