poeta inglese; nel 1798 pubblicò con Samuel Taylor Coleridge "Lyrical Ballads", una raccolta di poesie ritenuta da molti studiosi l'opera letteraria che diede inizio al movimento romantico inglese. La sua poetica emerge dalla prefazione alla seconda edizione dell'opera (1800) e dal suo poema autobiografico "The Prelude" che non concluse mai. La parte più consistente della biblioteca di Worthsworth è conservata presso la Cornell University.

Unternahm 1798/1799 zusammen mit seiner Schwester Dorothy und dem Dichter Samuel Taylor Coleridge eine Reise nach Deutschland; in Goslar begann er im Winter 1798/99 mit der Arbeit an seinem autobiografischen Gedicht, das später unter dem Titel "The Prelude" bekannt wurde (Gedenktafel am Haus des heutigen Altstadt-Kinos in Goslar)
