Er folgte seinem Neffen Viktor II. 1812 als Fürst von Anhalt-Bernburg-Schaumburg-Hoym, starb aber noch im selben Jahr nach achtmonatiger Regierung unverheiratet und kinderlos, womit die Nebenlinie Schaumburg-Hoym im Mannesstamm erlosch.'
