      text: 'Wurde zur Taufe nach Sevilla gebracht, wodurch Verwirrung über seinen Geburtsort entstand; nach seinem Studium bereiste er Frankreich und Italien (Rom, Ferrara); Anhänger und Verfechter demokratischer Ideen; seine Werke wurden häufig verboten; dies und seine politischen Aktivitäten zwangen ihn zur Emigration nach Frankreich und Portugal, hatte seine Exkommunikation durch den Bischof von Cádiz zur Folge und brachte ihn ins Gefängnis; er distanzierte sich dann von seinen politischen Gefährten, zog sich aus der Politik zurück, kehrte aus dem Exil in Frankreich nach Spanien zurück und starb in Madrid; bekannt geworden ist er zudem als Verfasser eines etymologischen Wörterbuchs der spanischen Sprache und eines Synonymwörterbuchs.'
