      text: '1801 gründete der Buchbinder Johann Bagel in Wesel eine gleichnamige Papierhandlung, die er 1824 um eine Buch- und Musikalienhandlung erweiterte. Mit der Leitung betraute er seinen Sohn August (1809-1881). Dieser gliederte dem Geschäft einen Verlag an und änderte die bislang unter Johann Bagel geführte Firma 1850 in August Bagel. Laut Schmidt erfolgte die Gründung der Buchhandlung 1826'
