Portrait of George Brooke, 9th Baron Cobham. Black and coloured chalks, touched with pen and Indian ink on pink-primed paper, 29.1 × 20.6 cm, Royal Collection, Windsor Castle. The harder black lines around the eyes, ears, nose, etc. are by a later hand, but on the whole, according to art historian K. T. Parker, "this splendid drawing is rather well preserved" (Parker, p. 50). A portrait in Germany based on this drawing is by a follower of Holbein.George Brooke, 9th Baron Cobham (c. 1497-1558), was knighted after the fall of Morlaix in 1523 and succeeded to his baronage in 1529. He took part in the trial of Anne Boleyn in 1536 and in the Scottish campaigns in 1546. He was linked with Wyatt's rebellion in 1554 but pardoned.
