20 Jahre Zusammenarbeit mit Sohn Thomas Payne bis 1790
Bookseller of New Round Court and Mew's Gate; retired 1790; d. 2 Feb. 1799; sometimes confused with the bookseller of Bishopsgate Street.
Libraire. Né à Brackley (comté de Northampton) ; baptisé le 26 mai 1719. Apprenti puis associé de son frère Oliver Payne, il s'établit à son compte après la faillite de celui-ci (1739). En 1745, épouse Elizabeth Taylor, sœur du libraire T. Taylor auquel il succède en 1749. Sa boutique, connue sous le nom de "Literary Coffee- house", devient un rendez-vous des gens de lettres. Se retire en 1790 au profit de son fils Thomas II Payne. Encore membre de la "Stationers' Company" en 1792. Travaille en association avec son fils aîné Thomas II Payne à partir de 1776, sous la raison "T. Payne and son(s)".

Libraire-relieur. Fils aîné du libraire Thomas I Payne, à qui il succède en 1790. Membre de la "Stationers' Company" en 1792, "master" en 1817. Se retire en 1825 au profit de son neveu John Payne et de son ancien apprenti puis associé Henry Foss. Travaille en association avec son père de 1776 à 1790 sous la raison "T. Payne and son" ; avec Henry Foss de 1815 à 1825 sous la raison "Payne and Foss".
Peut-être apparenté au libraire Thomas I Payne (1719-1799). Reçu apprenti libraire à Londres pour 7 ans en juillet 1709. Établi vers 1716. Encore en activité en août 1734. Se retire ou décède avant 1740.
