A obtenu le prix pour la mise en musique du poème de Vörösmarty Mihály : Szózat, considéré comme le second hymne national hongrois en 1843, au concours lancé par le directeur du Nemzeti Színház. Frère cadet de l'acteur et metteur-en-scène Egressy Gábor , egresi Galambos (1808-1866).
