Stanhope had links to the high church and was a member of the tory October Club, but was also friendly with low-churchmen - he was nominated as prolocutor of the lower house of convocation by the moderate clergy in 1705, and was given the position in 1714. He was removed from his role as royal chaplain for his criticism of Bishop Benjamin Hoadly in 1718. Stanhope published correspondence on the decrease in baptisms (1758), Paraphrase and Comment upon the Epistle and Gospels (1706-08), translations from Latin to English and many of his sermons. He was considered an excellent preacher, and delivered sermons on a number of public occasions. He died in Bath, March 1728. 340 01$8eng$a1660-1728$xa1660a1728 350 1$0acti$8ger$aPfarrer$uhttp://d-nb.info/gnd/4132592-8$2gnd 350 1$0acti$8ger$aTheologe$uhttp://d-nb.info/gnd/4059756-8$2gnd 350 1$0lang$8eng$aEnglish 350 1$0irsp$8fre$aAuteur 350 1$0acti$8ger$aHofkaplan 356 1$0nati$8eng$aBritish 400 01$aStanhope$b...$0varn 400 01$aStanhope$bGeorgius$0varn 400 01$aStanhope$rMr. Dean$rGeorge$0varn 515 1$0brth$aHartshorn 515 1$0deat$aBath$3cnl00007207 801 $aDE$bGyGoGBV$c20020830$n133760693 801 $aDE$bPND$c20010302$n100576036$gRAK 801 $aGB$bESTC$ntb012940 801 $aGB$bUkCyCl$nME004213 801 $aFR$bBNF$c20130516$nFRBNF123493083$gAFNOR Z 44-061 801 $aGB$bStAbUL$c20140520$n1524 801 $aDE$bGND$c20200322$n1019756624 801 $aDE$bGND$c20221111$n172383625 830 $aBIBSYS|x10004696 830 $aBLAISE-No. current:11515071 old:11515071 file:BEIG 830 $aBNE|XX1058292 830 $aDNB|172383625 830 $aLC|n 82056636 830 $aNLA|000036523179 830 $aNLIlat|000267886 830 $aSUDOC|032468717 956 8$0same$nDNBI$yhttp://d-nb.info/gnd/100576036$8eng$zAuthority record 956 8$0same$nPARB$yhttp://catalogue.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/cb12349308j$8eng$zAuthority record 956 8$0same$nVIAF$yhttp://viaf.org/viaf/212098968$8eng$zClustered authority record 956 1$0prov$nCANK$yStanhope,+George,+Dean+of+Canterbury$8eng$zProvenance Information 956 1$0prov$nABEU$y1524$8eng$zProvenance Information 956 8$0same$nWDAT$yhttp://www.wikidata.org/entity/Q5544777$8eng$zWikidata description set 956 8$0same$nDNBI$yhttp://d-nb.info/gnd/1019756624$8eng$zAuthority record 956 3$0dpct$nLINK$yhttp://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:FilePath/File:George Stanhope.jpg$cJoseph Sympson (died 1735-36) / one or more third parties have made copyright claims against Wikimedia Commons in relation to the work from which this is sourced or a purely mechanical reproduction thereof.
