Scientist, inventor, explorer and proprietor of plantation. Born Elgin, Scotland 1749. Graduated M.A., King's Coll., 1767. Came to Fort Pitt. Started trading with Native Americans 1771-3. Chief justice, Court of Quaker Sessions. Died Natchez, Mississippi 1810.
