      text: "Entré dans la Compagnie de Jésus en 1827. Ordonné prêtre en 1840. Professeur de droit canon de 1841 à 1843, de théologie dogmatique de 1845 à 1857. Participe à la définition du dogme de l'Immaculée Conception. Quitte la compagnie en 1859. Participe aux négociations entre le Saint-Siège et le Royaume de Sardaigne. Après leur échec, il publie anonymement sur la question romaine un ouvrage que la Curie condamne, et il doit en 1861 quitter les États pontificaux sous un déguisement pour éviter une arrestation. Installé à Turin, il y enseigne la philosophie, dirige de 1862 à 1866 le périodique \"Il Mediatore\" dans lequel il écrit régulièrement, puis le quotidien \"La Pace\". En 1863 il abandonne l'enseignement pour être élu député, mais abandonne la politique dès 1864. Écrit aussi en latin."
