Médecin et écrivain religieux. A étudié les humanités à Winchester et Oxford, puis la Médecine à Montpellier, Padoue et Leyde. A écrit un livre qui connut de nombreuses traductions en hollandais, français, latin et allemand "Religio medici". On a prétendu qu'il causa la mort de deux femmes accusées de sorcellerie par son témoignage de médecin
