Als Philosoph und Arzt berühmter persischer Universalgelehrter (Physiker, Jurist, Mathematiker, Astronom, Alchemist, islamischer Theologe, Naturhistoriker...), auch Dichter; geboren im Dorfe Afšana bei Buḫārā (heutiges Usbekistan); seine Muttersprache war Persisch; lebte nach vielen Ortswechseln bis kurz vor seinem Lebensende 14 Jahre lang in Iṣfahān; hatte verschiedene Positionen als Hofarzt und Verwalter inne; schrieb überwiegend auf Arabisch, teilweise auf Persisch; verfasste u.a. "(Kitāb) aš-Šifāʾ", "al-Qānūn fi 'ṭ-ṭibb", "(Kitāb) an-Naǧāh", "(Kitāb) al-Išārāt wa-'t-tanbīhāt", "Maqāla fi 'n-nafs", "al-Mabdaʾ wa-'l-maʿād"; zu den wenigen erhaltenen persischen Werken zählen "Andar dāniš-i rag" = "Risāla-i nabḍ" und "Dānišnāma(-i ʿalāʾī)"
Filosofo e medico mussulmano, persiano di nascita ed educato nella lingua araba, nato ad Afshana presso Buchara nel 980 e morto ad Hamadhan nel 1037. Visse sempre in Persia dove ricoprì la carica di Wazir.
Sina (c. 980, Afshana near Bukhara 1037, Hamadan), commonlyknown as Ibn Sina or by his Latinized name Avicenna, was a Persian physician andphilosopher. Ibn Sina studied medicine under a physician named Koushyar. He wrotealmost 450 treatises on a wide range of subjects, of which around 240 have survived.In particular, 150 of his surviving treatises concentrate on philosophy and 40 ofthem concentrate on medicine. His most famous works are The Book of Healing, a vastphilosophical and scientific encyclopaedia, and The Canon of Medicine, which was astandard medical text at many medieval universities. The Canon of Medicine was usedas a text-book in the universities of Montpellier and Louvain as late as 1650. IbnSina's Canon of Medicine provides a complete system of medicine according tothe principles of Galen (and Hippocrates). He was also an astronomer, chemist,geologist, Hafiz, Islamic psychologist, Islamic scholar, Islamic theologian,logician, paleontologist, mathematician, Maktab teacher, physicist, poet, andscientist
