"Attorney and statesman. He studied law in Albany and New York City, and was admitted to the bar in 1775. He served as secretary to General Schuyler during the American Revolution and later was a member of the Continental Congress; he was also a member of the New York State Assembly and a justice of the New York Supreme Court from 1790 to 1798 as well as the Chief Justice from 1798 to 1801. He also was a Regent for the University of the State of New York from 1817 to 1829. Lansing mysteriously disappeared in 1829 at one of the docks in New York City."
