In Petersburg Schüler von John Field, bereits 1812 Beendigung der Ausbildung, anschließend Konzertreisen in Polen, Deutschland, Holland und Frankreich, 1819 Nederlassung in Petersburg als Virtuose und Lehrer (man spricht von 800 Schülern), 1845 triumphale Konzertreise in skandinavischen Ländern, Deutschland und Österreich, danach Niederlassung als Hochgeschätzter Pädagoge in Dresden, komponierte über 350 Werke fast ausschließlich für Klavier, darunter viele Variationen, Tanz- und Charakterstücke
