Poet laureate of Aberdeen, and awarded freedom of the city, 1620. Composed many Latin poems but best known for his work Short Introduction to Grammar, first published 1632, which became a standard text in grammar schools in Scotland. Also produced his Institutiones grammaticae and Vocabula. Given freedom of Dundee 1632.
