Stud. der Naturwissenschaft und Botanik in Strassburg und Paris, Apothekerstaatsexamen in Bern. 1804 Übernahme der Koch'schen Apotheke in Thun. 1806 Mitglied des Gr. Rats, 1815 des Kl. Rats, 1819 Polizeidirektor. Nach 1830 widmete sich T. ganz der Botanik, speziell dem Stud. der Pilze, und wurde zu einem bedeutenden Mykologen seiner Zeit. Er verfasste zahlreiche Schriften und legte eine reichhaltige Pilzsammlung an. Zu seinen Ehren wurde eine Pilzgattung, die Trogia, nach ihm benannt."
