Travaille à Venise, puis s'établit à Lyon avant 1524, à la demande, semble-t-il, des associés de la Compagnie des libraires. Reçoit en nov. 1532 des lettres de naturalité. Imprime les ouvrages scientifiques de François Rabelais. A employé Étienne Dolet comme correcteur dans son atelier en 1534. Auteur de nombreuses préfaces et épîtres dédicatoires. Dit âgé de 63 ans lors de son décès (sept. 1556). Sa veuve Françoise Miraillet et son fils Antoine Gryphius lui succéderont sous la raison "Héritiers de Sébastien Gryphius"
