      text: "Variante(s) de prénom : Barptolome ; Barpt(h)olomeus. - Fils de l'imprimeur-libraire de Strasbourg Johann Grüninger, chez qui il travaille avec ses frères Christoph et Wolfgang dès 1520 environ. Succède à son père avant août 1532. Continue à employer pour ses impressions le riche matériel de bois gravés dont il a hérité. En août 1539 au plus tard, il revend la quasi-totalité de ses planches aux imprimeurs strasbourgeois Jakob Cammerlander et Johann Frölich, et, à l'invitation de Hieronymus Boner, humaniste alors bourgmestre de Colmar, se fixe en cette ville, succédant à l'imprimeur Amandus Farckall. En 1541, il obtient du corps de ville un important apport financier pour une édition des \"Vies parallèles\" de Plutarque traduites en allemand par H. Boner. L'ouvrage s'écoulant mal, Bartholomäus Grüninger est contraint de faire vendre son imprimerie aux enchères en 1545. Attesté en activité à Colmar jusqu'en 1543, il est peut-être retourné ensuite se faire embaucher à Strasbourg ou à Bâle. Le stock des impressions de ses \"Vies parallèles\" sera repris et remis sur le marché sous forme de nouvelle émission, successivement par la ville de Colmar en 1547 et par l'imprimeur strasbourgeois Augustin Fries en 1555"
