      text: "Imprimeur-libraire et fondeur de caractères. - Natif de Villers-en-Arthies (Val-d'Oise). Aurait d'abord travaillé dans l'imprimerie à Paris. S'établit à Genève où il achète une maison en juin 1537. De confession calviniste. Reçu habitant de Genève en 1538 puis bourgeois de la ville le 30 janv. 1540, il y exerce l'imprimerie. En oct. 1540, on lui confie la mission de porter une lettre à Jean Calvin, alors à Strasbourg, pour lui demander de revenir à Genève. Vers le début de 1542, Michel Du Bois quitte Genève et l'Église réformée et s'établit à Lyon, où des impressions à son nom sont connues de 1551 à 1558 ; il y imprime notamment pour Jean II Frellon. Serait rentré à Genève dès 1557 ; il y est déchu de sa bourgeoisie et d'abord emprisonné. À nouveau reçu bourgeois de la ville en mars 1559. Testament 15 janv. 1561. Décédé à Genève en avril ou mai 1561. L'imprimeur Étienne Anastaise reprend son matériel et héberge sa fille et héritière Simone Du Bois entre juillet 1570 et juillet 1572 au moins"
