Son of Patrick Scougall, Bishop of Aberdeen. Born, probably at Leuchars, 1650. Educated at King's Coll., Aberdeen, 1664, M.A. 1668. Regent, 1669-73. Minister of Auchterless and precentor in the cathedral church, Old Aberdeen, 1673. D.D. and Professor of Divinity 1674. Published The Life of God in the Soul of Man anonymously 1677. Died 1678, aged only 28. Buried in King's Coll. chapel. Portrait in Senatus Room. Bishop Patrick Scougall and his son Henry seems to have presented upwards of 1000 volumes to the library, on the understanding that the College should "entertain a Student of Divinity at the college table, who should be Bibliothecary, and should keep the doors of the library patent 2 hours in the day." A list of the books presented by the Scougalls will be found in MS K115.
