      text: "'Heilige Graal-hoeder', volgens de overlevering, koning van een reusachtig rijk ergens in het (zuid)oosten van Azië (wordt voor het eerst vermeld in een Latijns kroniek uit midden-12e eeuw ('heerst in Verre Oosten, nog voorbij Armenië en Perzië); zou een christelijke nakomeling van de Drie Koningen zijn en was bereid de West-Europese christenen in het Midden-Oosten te hulp te komen (diens roem raakte verbreid door een tekst die bekend stond als \"Brief van Priester Johannes\" (ca. 1165), waarin Priester Johannes zichzelf voorstelt als een heerser over een enorm rijk in het Oostern, genaamd: de drie India's ('was de christelijke heerser over 72 koningen in het Oosten'); vele pelgrims (o.a. Vlamingen) gingen via Jeruzalem in het Heilige Land, naar zijn rijk op zoek (o.a. Joos van Ghistele)."
