      text: "Nato a Butzbach, studiò a Herborn medicina (1611), e successivemente si perfezionò a Basel sotto la guida di Johann Bauhin in botanica e anatomia. Fra il 1616 e il 1618 fu in Italia, visitando Firenze, Roma, Venezia, Milano, Genova e Padova dove si fermò diversi anni. Successivamente si recò a Montpellier per perfezionarsi in chirurgia e ostetricia, prolungando il suo viaggio attraverso Polonia, Ungheria, Olanda e Inghilterra. Tornato definitivamente a Herborn nel 1623, divenne medico di corte del principe Maurizio di Orange-Nassau e tenne in seguito sia l'insegnamento di medicina che di lingue orientali.
