Zeichner, Stecher und Buchhändler; Sohn eines hohen Militärbeamten; 1831 Gründung eines eigenen Sortimentsgeschäfts in Darmstadt; die Herausgabe der Sammlung "Originalansichten der vornehmsten Städte Deutschlands" war ein Gemeinschaftswerk mit seinen Brüdern Ludwig (Architekt und Zeichner) und Georg (Forscher) sowie dem Kupferstecher Ernst Rauch; die Ansichten wurden in seiner eigenen Druckerei teils in Stahl-, Kupfer- oder Zinkdruck hergestellt; in Langes Verlag erschienen auch Führer (darunter die Maltenschen Rheinführer), Atlanten, Karten sowie eine große Anzahl artistischer Sammelwerke aus allen Gebieten, Tablos, religiöse und Genrebilder etc.'
