Ordained 1619. Suspended 1633 after a frank exchange of views with a visitor to the Archbishop. Decided to emigrate to New England, reached Boston 1635. Played a leading role in shaping Congregationalism there. Published work justifying the New England church. Contributed to the first book printed in English America. Provided the working draft for the results of a synod in 1646. Died Dorchester, 1669.
