      text: "Physicien, économiste, agronome, naturaliste et philologue. - Assistant de Felice Fontana, en 1768, pour la création du Musée de physique et de sciences naturelles de Florence, dont il sera le directeur-adjoint en 1780, puis le directeur de 1805 à 1806. - De 1776 à 1778, voyage en France, entre dans la loge maçonnique des Neuf Soeurs. - Part à Londres, où il fréquente les cercles radicaux et déistes et fréquente Benjamin Franklin, puis à Manchester et Liverpool, visiter mines aciéries et manufactures. - En 1782 il retourne en Toscane, devient professeur honoraire à l'université de Pise, membre de diverses sociétés savantes, dont \"l'Accademia dei Georgofili\", de Florence, et la Société italienne des sciences. - En 1798 il représente Ferdinand III auprès de la Commission internationale des poids et mesures ; il s'intéresse autant à l'amélioration de l'agriculture qu'à la réorganisation des finances toscanes, avant d'être nommé au Corps législatif, en 1809, puis décoré de la Légion d'honneur en 1810"
