Durante il suo soggiorno presso il monastero di San Michele di Murano, cercò invano di preservare la biblioteca conventuale dalle dispersione a seguito delle soppressioni napoleoniche. Fu un profondo studioso di geografia ed ebbe il merito di rinnovare gli studi sul Mappamondo di Fra' Mauro e in generale sui viaggiatori veneziani."
