      text: 'bouwmeester, graveur en architect. Hij was een van de vele Hugenoten, die na de opheffing van het Edict van Nantes (1685) naar de Republiek vluchtte. Marot kwam in dienst van koning-stadhouder Willem III en de Friese stadhouders. Marot bracht de stijl van Lodewijk XIV naar Nederland, en ontwierp in deze stijl interieurs, gebouwen en tuinen. Marot is bekend vanwege zijn 250 gravures. In 1686 vestigde Marot zich in Den Haag en vanaf 1720 aan het Noordeinde 164 in die stad. In dat huis zou Marot tot zijn dood blijven wonen. De keuken en de tuin zijn tot de dag van vandaag bewaard gebleven.'
