Islamischer Theologe und Rechtsgelehrter (Ismāʿīlit) aus Nordafrika/Ifrīqiya; in den letzten Jahrzehnten des 3. Jahrhunderts der Hiǧra geboren; entstammte wahrscheinlich einer malikitischen Familie in Qairawān (Sezgin) bzw. in Qairawān geboren und aufgewachsen (Kaḥḥāla); erhielt seine Ausbildung in Qairawān; gilt als einer der Gründer des ismāʿīlitischen fiqh; schloss sich 313/925 den Fāṭimiden an (d.h. er diente zuerst dem ersten Fāṭimidenkalifen, al-Mahdī bi-Allāh); berühmter Kadi des Fāṭimidenkalifen al-Muʿizz li-dīn Allāh; wurde 336/948 Oberkadi/qāḍi 'l-quḍāh; verfasste u.a. "Daʿāʾim al-islām fi 'l-ḥalāl wa-'l-ḥarām wa-'l-qaḍāyā wa-'l-aḥkām ʿan ahl bait rasūl Allāh" (eines der Hauptwerke des ismāʿīlitischen fiqh und kalām), "Iḫtilāf uṣūl al-maḏāhib"
