      text: 'Pietist und Kirchenkritiker. 1705 Hauslehrer in Kopenhagen, begründete dort den Pietismus. Wegen schafer Kritik an den kirchlichen Verhältnissen ausgewiesen, ebenso erging es ihm 1706 in Oslo. Wirkte bis 1713 in Altona, dann in Hamburg. Ausweisung aus Hamburg 1726. Er gehörte zu der Sekte der Gichtelianer, die sich auch Engelbrüder nannten. Reiche schriftstellerische und Übersetzer-Tätigkeit. Seine wertvolle Bibliothek ging später in den Besitz des Christianeums in Altona über.'
