      text: Impresor y editor de mapas y atlas. Él estudió con Tycho Brahe. Se estableció en Amsterdam en 1596 como cartógrafo y fabricante de globos terráqueos y celestes. Desde ca. 1621 Willem adoptó el nombre Blaeu para distinguir su taller del de la familia de Johannes Janssonius. Fue nombrado cartógrafo de la Compañía de las Indias Orientales en 1633. A su muerte el negocio pasó a sus hijos Joan y Cornelis.
