En apprentissage chez Samuel Ballard (nov. 1730), puis chez Nicolas Prevost (déc. 1730), et enfin chez Samuel Dufresnay (nov. 1734 - fév. 1738). \"Freeman\" de la Stationers' Company le 7 fév. 1738. En 1739, il se rend à Paris pour superviser l'édition de Cicéron réalisée par l'abbé Olivet, et y retournera en 1759 pour l'édition de Tacite par l'abbé Brotier. Importe des livres français. En 1750, il prend la succession de son oncle Isaac Vaillant. Élu shérif de Londres en 1759. Peter Elmsley se dit son successeur dès 1767, mais des éditions continuent de paraître sous le nom de Paul Vaillant. \"Master\" de la Stationers' Company en 1770. Décédé le 1er fév. 1802 dans sa 87e année"
