Together with other chapmen in the burgh and shire, he applied to the Town Council of Stirling on 18 October 1726 for power to elect a Lord Chapman. He had a son, James Jaffrey junior, who married Anne, daughter of Ebenezer Erskine, born 1718. There were no children of this marriage. Will dated 31 December 1756.
