Betrieb eine Druckerei in Wittenberg, in der bis 1546 90 Schriften bzw. Übersetzungen von Schriften Luthers herauskamen; daneben betrieb er einen Weinschank und betätigte sich vielfach auch als Buchhändler. Wurde 1549 von Herzog Albrecht von Preußen zur Errichtung einer Druckerei nach Königsberg berufen und erhielt das erste preußische Druckprivileg; diese Presse, die Luffts Schwiegersohn Aurifaber leitete, ging 1553 wieder ein
