Johan Christopher Holmberg got a privilege as bookseller in late November 1766 and his bookshop in Stockholm appears as of 1767. Later he had branches in Norrköping, Gothenburg, Uppsala and Åbo. He was also a publisher. He entered into partnership with the printer Lars Wennberg in 1778, and this arrangement lasted through 1781. In 1782-1783 the bankrupt printer Carl Stolpe, using Holmberg's equipment, printed Holmberg's publications. Holmberg finally got his own printing privilege in 1784 and continued the business as printer until 1803 when he was convicted for breaking the censorship rules and lost his privilege. His equipment was left to the printer Peter Sohm. As a bookseller Holmberg was active at least until 1805 and as a publisher he appears the last time in 1807.
