      text: "Tipografia attiva a Roma. Venne fondata nel 1584 dal cardinale Ferdinando de' Medici, poi Ferdinando I granduca di Toscana, che vi chiamò come direttore Giovanni Battista Raimondi da Cremona, esperto in lingue orientali. La sua prima sede fu in piazza di Montedoro. I caratteri che vi si adoperarono vennero incisi da Robert Granjon. Iniziò la produzione nel 1590 e stampò opere in varie lingue per il Medio Oriente e i paesi slavi. Nel 1596 il granduca vendette la tipografia a Raimondi, che la rese al figlio di Ferdinando, Cosimo II, conservandone la custodia fino alla morte nel 1614. Lavorarono nella tipografia Cesare e Pietro Eliano e Giacomo Luna."
