Tipografo, editore e libraio, figlio di Jean, n. a Saint-Avertin presso Tours nel 1520, m. ad Anversa il 1.7.1589. Fu apprendista a Caen presso Robert Macé il giovane. Sposò Jeanne Rivière ed ebbe sei figli: Margareta, Martina, Catharina, Magdalena, Henrica e Christophe. Nel 1549 si stabilì ad Anversa come legatore e divenne tipografo nel 1555. La sua stamperia ebbe sede prima in Cammerstraat (fino al 1576), poi in Vrijdagmarkt, mentre la libreria rimase in Cammerstraat. L'insegna fu dapprima al Liocorno d'oro (fino al 1561), poi al Compasso d'oro. Nel 1567 aprì una libreria a Parigi, in rue Saint-Jacques, e l'affidò al genero Gilles Beys. Nel 1583 Wilhelm Silvius gli cedette la tipografia dell'Università di Leida, che Plantin diresse per tre anni, passandola poi al genero Frans Raphelenghius. Gli successe un altro genero, Joannes Moretus.
