      text: I monaci camaldolesi sono attestati sull'isola di San Michele dal 1212 al primo decennio del secolo XIX. Dalla fine del Trecento sino a tutto il Quattrocento vi era attivo uno scriptorium dove numerosi monaci calligrafi e miniaturisti trascrivevano manoscritti da destinare alla biblioteca del monastero o alla vendita. Nel 1797 la biblioteca di San Michele possedeva circa 2352 manoscritti e 1203 incunaboli. Nel 1810 il monastero fu soppresso.
