AnnotatiePort-Royal Version (known also as De Sacy or the Mons Version), begun by A. Le Maistre (Psalms), completed by I.L. Le Maistre de Sacy and revised by A. Arnauld, P. Nicole and other Port-Royalists. This New Testament, part of a plan to translate the whole Bible, was preceded in publication by Isaiah (Paris 1663) and Psalms (1665); the rest was published separately between 1672 and 1695 and in 32 volumes in 1696
This New Testament was censored in France by royal decree 22-11-1667 and condemned by the archbishop of Rheims 18-11-1667, by the archbishop of Paris 18-11-1667 and 20-04-1668, by the bishop of Evreux 27-11-1667, by the bishop of Amiens 20-10-1673 and by the bishop of Toulon 19-02-1678; placed on the Index librorum prohibitorum by popes Clement IX (Breve Clementis IX, 20-04-1668 and Decr. 13-01-1669) and Innocent XI (19-11-1677 and 19-09-1679)
Not printed in Mons by G. Migeot. Erroneously attributed to E. Viret in Rouen (Jacques Le Long and Brunet), to J. (I) Blaeu in Amsterdam (Nodier) and to S. Matthysz in Leiden (Sailly), but in fact printed in Brussel by E.H. (II) Fricx, in the first year of his six-year privilege (Chambers 1414)
