General NotePublished chapbooks, mostly songs and garlands from 1827-44. The earliest, “Archie Allan; a tale, in Scottish verse” [by Alexander Laing] was printed for A. Black, Bookseller in Brechin by Ranken & Co. Printers Forfar. From 1829 to 1839 they are sometimes described as 'printed by Black and Co'. “Pigot 1825” gives David Black, bookseller, High Street, Brechin.
