TypeCorporate body
Biographical dates - Period of existence1843-1960
Other InformationApproximate ending date. Bookseller firm started in 1843 by Frederik Muller (1817-1881) and carried on after his death by his partner and relative Frederik Adama van Scheltema (1846-1899). After his death the firm was led by Anton Mensing (1866-1936), employed by Scheltema in 1885 and made partner in 1892, which kept using Muller's name, logo and motto and extended the business to art auctions. After Anton's death the firm passed to his son, Ben Mensing, despite the efforts of the Muller family to get back the firm or at least to have Mensing cease to use their name: the last big auction took place in 1960, but after that the auction house declined.
