weitere InformationBorn George John Venables Vernon at Stapleford Hall, Nottinghamshire, on 22 June 1803. Educated at Eton College and Christ Church, Oxford. Studied Italian language and history in Florence. MP for Derby, 1831-1835. Called to the House of Lords on the death of his father, 1835. In 1837 he exchanged his birth name, Venables Vernon, for that of Warren, in compliance with the will of Lady Warren Bulkeley, which bequeathed the estates of Poynton and Stockport to Vernon's mother. Devoted to Dante; printed numerous texts. The two most important works were Le prime quattro edizioni della ‘Divina commedia’ letteralmente ristampate (1858) and ‘L'Inferno’ di Dante Alighieri disposto in ordine grammaticale e corredato di brevi dichiarazioni da G. G. Warren, Lord Vernon (1858–65). Died at Sudbury Hall, Derbyshire, on 31 May 1866. He collected, with the help of the booksellers Payne & Foss, a fine library of books and manuscripts, a great number of which, mostly in French bindings, he sold en bloc to Robert Holford. His books were included in the Holford sale at Sotheby's in December 1927. Other books, possibly duplicates, were sold about 1839, and the main part of his library at Sotheby's 10 June 1918, 19 October 1921, and 16 July 1928.
