Other InformationFounded as a private library in the second half of the 16th century by Wolf Ernst zu Stolberg (1546–1606), it was established to become a public library in 1615, but it was actually opened around the middle of the 18th century. In 1929 the library was closed and given to the 'Verein der ruhegehaltsberechtigten Beamten' that had also the right to sell the books. Many were sold via the antiquarian bookseller Martin Breslauer (1871-1940); Harvard Law School purchased the entire section K (“Staats- und Rechtswissenschaften") from Alfred Lorentz.
