Altre informazioniGraduate of Harvard (class of 1922); after a brief period in the family lumber business in Bangor, Maine, began working in the Cruft Laboratory at Harvard in 1928. This led to a lifelong interest in collecting historical scientific instruments, and he was the founder of the Harvard Collection of Historical Scientific Instruments. But with the opening of the Houghton Library in 1942 and his connection with its librarian, William A. Jackson, he also built large collections of printed books on scientific subjects, particularly those relating to instruments and their use, including more than 20 incunabula.
