Other InformationThe Academic Library of the University of Latvia, one of the oldest libraries in Europe, was founded in 1524. In 1945 it was renamed the "State Historical Library", but in 1946 it was transferred to the Academy of Sciences and was renamed the "Fundamental Library of the Academy of Sciences of the Latvian SSR". In 1946, the oldest and world's most complete Latvian literature repository, the Misiņš Library, founded in 1885 by the great Latvian bibliophile and bibliographer Jānis Misiņš, was also transferred to the Academy of Sciences. In 1954, the Academy of Sciences administratively merged these two book repositories, giving readers the opportunity to use the holdings of both libraries. In 1992, in line with the new functions of the Academy of Sciences, the Fundamental Library of the Latvian Academy of Sciences was renamed the Academic Library of Latvia. Since 2009, the Academic Library has been a core structural unit of the University of Latvia. See: https://www.acadlib.lu.lv/oldsite/www.acadlib.lu.lv/index2dcb.html?&30
