Altre informazioniGálffy János, councilor of Transylvania, was born in the 16th century in Aranyosszék (Szekler), Kocsárd (Ro. Lunca Mureșului). During his life he serves as clerk of the chancellery (1567–1569), royal judge of Aranyosszék, councilor (1578–1593), chief treasurer (1578–), chief court master (1583–), and tutor of Prince Zsigmond Báthory.
After finishing his studies, he entered the service of Csáki Mihály, the chancellor of King John II; where he was at the beginning of 1571. When Kristóf Báthori took over the headquarters in Várad, he called Gálfi into his service. During the flickering and fighting between Báthori and Békés, Gálfi continued to remain in the service of Kristóf B., for which reason he gave him various rich and bright rewards and as a prince he elevated him to the royal court of Aranyos-Szék, then to councilorship and presented him with large goods.
In 1583, István Báthori appointed him tutor of Zsigmond Báthori. However, when Zsigmond took over the government of the country, he used his power against Gálfi. During the reign of Boldizsár Báthori, the councilors of the country tried to reconcile Zsigmond and Boldizsár in 1591.
The decision of the council was entrusted to Gálfi and Pál Gyulai, so that they could inform the prince, who suspected them of being instigators. In 1592 he had Pál Gyulai cut to pieces on his own property in Abafá, and also ordered the arrest of Gálfi.
But he fled from his castle in Marosújvár to Hungary with his wife Erzsébet Pernyeszi; however, he was caught in Belényes and taken first to Nagyvárad and then to Huszt by order of Zsigmond B. Although Zsigmond B. mostly owed his princely dignity to him, the nobles of the country unsuccessfully asked for his pardon; he himself begged almost desperately, but to no avail. In 1593, he was beheaded by the Hussite sub-captain Balázs Szabó.
